I doubt I'll do well this year. I keep getting email from folks saying they brewed this recipe or that recipe from the book and took 1st, 2nd, 3rd and BOS at this or that competition.

I'm going to get my ass kicked.
I hope my post helped in some way. If not, please feel free to contact me.

Funny you mentioned that, both of my entries are from your book, but some of the ingredients are different given the hop shortage. :D

this is my first entry in any competition. I just registered a Maibock based on Jamil's recipe, but I couldn't get all the ingredients (hops). Unfortunately, I don't brew much in the fall/winter, so I didn't have much left to enter other. I did make a Tripel with saffron which is my favorite homebrew currently, but it really could use a some more age on it.

I'm sending a few, I had a Vienna Lager take 3rd in the 1st round and go to Nationals last year, but by the 2nd round it was oxidized. I tried some recipe tweeks and bottling tweeks to avoid that this year.

Also had an American IPA that actually scored higher, but I forgot my dry hops as I usually do - judges said I had the process down and just needed small recipe changes to bring out the hop aroma - well this year I managed to remember the dry hops. So maybe I'll score a little higher for that, but IPA is such a highly entered category I'm sure I won't advance to the 2nd round.
On tap 1: Dry Irish
On tap 2: El Jefeweizen
On tap 3: Vienna
kegged: Rye Amber, Belgian Dark Strong, CYBI Mirror Pond, Irish Red, RIS
lagering: Vienna, Helles, Cream Ale, CAP

I entered six:
Belgian Strong Dark
Trippel - had a rough fermentation, but want to see what the judges say
Classic American Pilsner - previous batch won Gold at NJ State Fair
Octoberfest - had potential but came out with a weird flavor, interested in judges' comments
Blackened Brutal Bitter
Imperial IPA - I think it's really good, but my first batch didn't excell in previous competition.

I think the beers range from somewhat messed up to pretty damn good, so I don't expect any glory, but I'm really looking forward to getting feedback.
