I brewed the "dead guy ale" clone from CYBI.

I brewed the "dead guy ale" clone from CYBI and used dry yeast (safe ale 05). It turned out great!
I did not have to plan three days ahead to make the starter, no work to make the starter, no DME, no pressure cooker, no stir plate, I just re-hydrated. I did use two packets, but that was the same price as one liquid smack pack/vial. Tell me again why to use liquid yeast?

because of all choices. i would sub safale 05 and 04 all the time for 001 and 002 if I was brewing on short notice, but you can't make a great kolsch or an alt or many other styles with dry yeast. i do like safale though, it is 100x more convenient tearing open a packet than planning a starter.

Did you get 49 IBU's as the recipe and John stated?

Rogue's website lists Dead Guy IBU's at 40 yet this recipe and John said 49. There should be a big difference between the two.

i wouldn't get all hung up on the IBU thing one is a model and the other is a lab test. models aren't perfect.

I have brewed it. It came out very close, mine was not quite bitter enough which I attribute mostly to using hop bags and not adjusting the recipe. I made a hop tea after it was in the keg to bitter it up just a tad. I have plans to brew it again as it is a great beer and a great recipe. I'd adjust the recipe's bittering hops to match the alpha of the hops you have, but other than that leave it alone.
