Tired of beer...

Fri Oct 15, 2010 5:42 pm

I never thought that I would ever tire of beer, but I think it's happened. I've been listening to the BN for three years now, and my love of craft beer and homebrew has really blossomed in that time. It seemed like I was having a beer four or five nights a week, especially when playing Xbox with friends, trying to beat the DC heat, or just trying new craft beers and homebrew. I'm getting married next weekend and had my bachelor party weekend three weeks ago. The guys took me to RFD in DC, which is an excellent place to get a beer. We drank for 12 hours (didn't get sick, not hungover the next day, a perfect night of drinking) and had a great time. I've had no desire to drink a beer since and have found myself drinking apple cider, chocolate milk, and even tea. It's like I'm 18 again, and I'm only 25 so I remember that time of my life well.

It's not an alcohol thing, I'm actually drinking the Widmer Bros. Prickly Pear Braggot right now (excellent!), and have had a few different hard ciders and wines this week... it's just beer. I'm brewing a couple batches this week, so hopefully by the time they are ready I'll be back to normal. Has this happened to anybody else? I've read the post on not liking Belgians anymore, but this is across the board. Any other suggestions on commercial ciders/braggots/other things to drink until I snap out of this? Any other advice? Is there some sort of unicorn/rainbow power I need to harness to get back into beer?

Sounds like your testosterone has dropped off. You are ready for marriage.

The Fool.

BTW. Braggot, Meads, Ciders, Wines, Sours, Saki. There's a big fermented world out there. I hope you keep exploring. You'll come back to beer now and then. I started making cider and wine this fall. It's different, but similar enough not to be foreign.

Ive had this happen with vodka before after a bad night 2 years ago. I still cant drink more than 1 shot/drink with it, but that alot more than what i was able to, couldn't even be in the room with an open bottle of it at one point without getting physically sick. What i found is to mix it with something you can drink, in my case mt dew. Since your liking things made from fruit, try making/drinking fruit beers. At this time of year try some of the pumpkin brews, try focusing on the ones that actually use pumpkin in the brew and not just spices. It may slowly bring you back to brew.

Good god man! I've seen this before.
Run full speed into a wall or have a close friend smack you in the back of the head.
Drinking tea when I was 18 was what drove me to drinking.
I'll send an address so you can ship all of that tasty sounding beer you got there to me.

Things will get better.
Cheers. :aaron
Is it beer :30 yet?

Oh my goodness, I do hope the problem you are having is not contagious! I can't imagine not having a desire for a great beer...

I think you you answered your own question, you need to mix up your drinks, and not pressure yourself to feel like you need a beer if you don't.
There is a whole lovely world of wines, bourbons, cocktails, ciders, and even non alcoholic drinks (no, I'm not talking about NA beers, I'm talking about teas, kombuchas, coffee, and stuff like that).

Take a breather, mix up your drinking regimen and push your boundaries. You will probably not feel so tired of beer. You could even try making some wine or cider if you haven't already.

Been there, I've either taken a break from beer and gone to my 2nd love Whiskey, Scotch, Irish or Bourbon, or have gone to another style of beer that was radically different, I've even taking a little run on wine.
I've gone passed the huge IPA, I prefer english styles more now, I don't actually like that HUGE overhopped citrus bomb. It's fun now because the wife is getting into the hoppier beers now.
