when I lived in the Lower Area the BJs located in Woodland Hills was what saved the day. I was there in 2006. the brewery was brewing the beer served on site. I remember a few things about being there. the Beer Appreciation dinners were always a good time. I got to attend 3 or 4 of them. while I was there it was stoopid hot weather so big and or hoppy wasn't what I wanted. that made up for the lack of a great IPA. the bar served more shots, girl drinks and Bud Lite compared to their own beer. which was not a surprise. but what was a surprise was meeting Maltese Falcon members randomly.
I have notes that the beer was good beer but not great beer. maybe it was the local water which always smelled like chemicals.
today BJ's is a destination the same way that Russian River or Triple Rock are destinations. it's takes a train and a walk through the mall to get to BJs, BART to Bezerkly to 3Rock or convincing somebody with a car to take me North to RR. it's much easier to drink locally at 21a or Magnolia and or walk to Toronado from my flat.
