Thanks for the offer Push. One of these days I might even take you up on it. ATM my control panel is a spirit thermometer, a powerboard and paying attention. It works. But it sure aint purdy like yours (and Sven's is also nice)

Mine is more about the BIG picture. Sculpture is bolted to the foundation. Hard plumbed water. Natural gas system tied into the house. Control panel hardwired to house AC in a sub-panel attached to my garage.

Pictures to come.

Sweet setup!

Love the name. Suspect the Voltmeter is required in case you have accidentally upsized a pump or heater while experimenting :-) (why are the lights dimming?).

Don't think the Voltmeter will work if it is wired like your schematic though - needs to be in parallel with power supply (i.e. across active and neutral), not in series.

True dat, my brewin' brother (that's why it says "high only" in legend -- I was too lazy to draw out both legs).

Kaiser, you imperialistic dictator, electric heating and the system is a HERMS (right? I can never keep those two straight). Here's a page about the HLT.

RMS is direct heat and HERMS is heat exchange, hence the H ;)

I was kinda hoping for a controlled burner since I saw a switch for a stirrer on your control panel. (H)RMS systems usually don't use a stirrer since they like to clear up the wort when recirculating.

The regulated burner and stirrer approach is what I would like to use in an automated brew-house once I have the time/money to work on that.

Hey, thanks man.

The stand we built for Sven uses an automated natural gas burner in that fashion with parts from MoreBeer. Your hope is revived.

If you had looked at the link to the HLT you would see the stirrer is in there (to keep the water moving past the coils and the heating element).

Now quit growing your Shaungina and whining about not having time and money. Get out there on the streets like a real brewer and whore your ass out for loose change to build that brewery! :D

Does Morebeer sell magnetic valves for gas lines?

Here is a mash-tun, that I saw in a German Homebrewing forum and it's design inspired me ever since: http://hobbybrauer.de/modules.php?name= ... d&tid=2473

This system uses a magnetic valve for the gas line and electric igniters for the gas burners. But I think a pilot ligh should be easier to work with.

Now that go me thinking. Can I get all the necessary parts from a gas water heater. It has the burner, the pilot light and a way to regulate the gas. The latter may not be precice enough to hold the mash-temp within 1F (0.5 K).

What do you think.

I'll be moving to Massachussets soon and I hope we can get a house that has a shed that I can convert into a brewery? Maybe I even have to build my own brewing shed. Now that would be a lot of fun to ;)

I just read that whole thread. Awesome. Those freakin' Krauts are just as nuts as we are.

The controller is a Honeywell 800 -- call morebeer and talk to James. Sven uses a pilot light for his, but I know he wants to do a whole post about his new stand, so I won't get into that.

Yes; you can get all the parts from a gas water heater or furnace. You won't regulate the gas with the valve, you'll use your thermostat (Ranco, Johnson or Love control) for that.
