Newbie wanting to make a Porter...

Thu Jan 01, 2009 6:23 pm

I'm still somewhat new to home brewing and I would like to make a Porter. I was planning on using a liquid extract kit as I am relatively new to this... I'd like to make a Porter thats slightly sweet, maybe with a touch of vanilla(?) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome-

Austin Home Brew has a vanilla porter kit. I have never tried this kit, but I have bought other things from them. They are very reputable.
I realize the kit would probably be a little better with real vanilla beans, but try it this way and then if you like it, you can look up how to do one using real vanilla beans.

Welcome... I have the Jamil Vanilla Porter on my list of brews for this month. I would say using vanilla beans are the way to go.
