How to deal with roomates and friends

So I have a nice keggerator set up in my kitchen, and I try my hardest to brew beer every week if I can. But my last beer (Jamil's brown ale btw, fucking fantastic!) lasted less than a week. Now I know I had my fair share of at least 12 or so pints, but there were at least 4 gallons of beer in the keg and I'm looking at my roommate and the people he invites over for his musical endeavors for my current lack of beer. I'm really not sure how to deal with this. I love having my beer on tap and I really don't mind sharing it with other people but as soon as I put a beer on tap the purchase of beer by anyone else stops, and when the beer goes away only the cheapest beer seems to be brought into the house and only then rarely (although my rodenbach seems to disappear conveniently whether or not I'm the one drinking it). How do others deal with this ''frustration.' I for one am about to scream at someone, but I feel that might cause some living situation problems Is asking for 'beer money' against the brewers' code?

It's your $$, blood, sweat, and tears.
I think it's your right to ask for something in return.

Explain to them how you feel about your beer and see if they'll put up cash for ingredients.
If they can't see why you're getting aggravated then they suck, fuck 'em they can brew their own.
It's great that your friends like your beer but there are limits.

The only roomate I've had since I satrted brewing is the wife and I out-drink her 6x over.

Have them pitch in for a bigger kettle, more kegs and carboys, and ingredients. Tell them your labor is free, but they have to foot the bill so you can keep that keggerator at capacity full time.

This might not work for you because it requires multiple fridges, But: I keep the mediocre (it seems like I can't make a good ordinary bitter but I keep trying!) stuff available all the time in one fridge. The good stuff and lagers go in a chest freezer with a lock on it. I'm usiong cobra taps on those, so one lock encompasses all kegs in the freezer. However, you will need to buy a tap handle lock if you have a keggerator.

No one complains about me being a dick. I guess they realize they couldn't control themselves with my free beer.

I've been trying to get my boss to let me work at home just for this purpose.

I think I'm going to mount the tip bucket on the fridge and see what happens, at the very least I guess I could keep beers that I don't want people to pound in the kegerator with no tap on them (my pomegranate saison, that beer only lasted two weeks last time).

The other option is tap locks, but I would definitely talk to the roommates about it before you went there. The idea of a "beer fund" is pretty good. That money could go towards communal beer purchases, or ingredients.

tell those fuckers to pony up. either start paying or the beer goes away. let them know that all the beer they've been drinking goes for about 30 bucks a keg. pony up or else. don't put up with that shit! later, drew

Make the roommate pony up $30 AND make him help out when you brew. Not only will he end up paying for all the stuff he and his buddies are drinking, he'll also learn about the effort involved and know he'll be required to help out each time they drink through a keg so quickly. You never know, after learning to do this he may start making up his own batches and add to the quantity of brew available. Give a man a fish......
