Most comps want your beer bottles free of ink, labels, etc. Samuel Adams bottles have the name engraved into the glass. Just wondering if that's ok.

Don't see anything in the rules that disallows it...

I don't know the answer for sure, but my impression is that it's not allowed... most comp rules say the bottles must be free of any distinguishing marks, or something like that, which I think includes the name being on the glass.

I mostly use Red Hook Longhammer and ESB bottles to bottle in and they've got some stuff on them. I recently started adding some Sierra Nevada bottles to my inventory because they're plain.

I don't know, but that's been my thinking anyway.

I just purchased a case of bottles from my LHBS. It makes it easy knowing there plain and crud free.

I doubt I will be entering this year. I do have an Eisbock lagering that I may enter in 2009. I did not enter last year either. I figured I would stop while I was ahead... At least until I brew a beer I feel has a chance against Jamil agian. 8)
I have not been bottling lately either and I have 7 kegs with different beers on tap. I need to bottle up a keg or two, because I am out of kegs. :?
If one of the kegs I bottle up, I may enter a beer or two.

Anyone need a room right across the street from the NHC? I just cancelled my reservation and I know they were all booked up so there should be 1 non-smoking room with 2 queensize beds available at the Livinn Suites.

I think the room was under $70.00 a night, damn good deal for not having to drive or walk a lengthy distance to get to the conference. I won't be able to attend after all damnit.

Straight from the rules pdf (http://www.beertown.org/events/nhc/pdf/NHC08_Rules_Regs.pdf)
1. What kind of bottle is required?
BEER entries must be in bottles that are brown or green glass only, 10 to 14 ounces in volume.
MEAD and CIDER entries must be in bottles that are brown, green, or clear glass, 10 to 14
ounces in volume. All bottles must be free of ink, paint, or paper labeling other than competition
entry labels. Obliterate any lettering or graphics on the cap with a permanent black marker.
Bottles with Grölsch-type swing tops are not allowed. Corked bottles meeting the above
restrictions are acceptable; however, you must crimp a crown cap over the cork. Bottles with a
stopper and wire cage are acceptable. Bottles not meeting these requirements will be
disqualified.

Nothing about raised lettering on bottles.

I have used Sam Adams bottles in the past. I have recieved comments on how not to use bottles with markings but they did not disqualify my beer.

I entered two beers this year for my very first competition after homebrewing for 'bout 3 years. I used the BN as my club seeing that there aren't any clubs that I know of up here in my part of N. California.

Hey JZ, don't enter NHC this year so some of us can get a fourth place in the first round. thanks in advance.
