Dopplebock, Kelheim, Germany
Bottle. Purchased @ Sharp Edge Creek house, Pittsburgh, PA

A great Dopplebock. Pours very dark, reddish hue. Sweet but not as sweet as some I’ve had. Some nut flavor and caramel. Chocolate notes. A must try.

This is currently my favorite dopplebock-- but I don't know many others that are familiar with it. I actually had it in a bottle at a restaurant/bar near my house. I couldn't believe how fresh it tasted from the bottle-- maybe the dopplebocks survive the journey better than the typical imported ale or lager. I ended up drinking 3 bottles-- I can see how the monks could use this as a substitute for food!
