Copenhagen Beer Festival 2007

Fri Mar 23, 2007 5:57 am

The Danish Beer Enthusiasts http://www.ale.dk/index.php?id=49 have their annual beer festival on May 11th-13th 2007 in Valby, Copenhagen.
This festival features more than 1000 beers and 70 stands and of course a home brew competition.
The theme for the home brew competition is "Summer Beers". There's a limit on the ABV on max. 3.5% but the choice of style is free.
The festival is smoke free for the first time this year due to new 1egislation, but only in the indoor festival area.
Beers will be served in 10cl commendable tasting glasses.

So if you are in the area, come visit or if you want more information PM me.

Sounds like a good time to me, but 3.5%?!

Good luck on trying to sample all 1,000 beers! I tried to sample all 1,400 or so at GABF last year and didn't quite make it through all of them.
Maybe this year.

Kasper,

If I remember correctly then the competition is open to both commercial and home brewers. To be honest I can't see why anyone should want to join in on something that darf. I mean a limit on 3.5% Vol and then for a Summer Beer...c'mon! Hardly any styles fit that describtion. Why can't we have a "Best of show" or "Audience Favorite" instead of that theme thing?! I really hope that only a few of the micro breweries will join in on the joke and the rest will tell them to get real and smell the hops...

Bugeater, we only get them in .34 oz tasters and they will cost you over a buck a piece, so this is something you save for all year.

Hi Thure

according to this link, http://www.ale.dk/index.php?id=1949 (sorry guys it's in danish) it is my understanding that it is for commercial breweries, and you can see here who's competing http://www.ale.dk/index.php?id=2776

Actually I like the idea of the 3,5 limit. forget about styles, and if you still want to talk about styles, then listen to Jamils, light and dark mild, show. I know you like Jamil's shows :-)

Or what about Lawn Mower beers. summer beers you can drink plenty of while mowing the lawn, on summer sundays, without injuries :-)

At the brewery we have 2000 liters of our take on the 3,5 summerbeer, if you want to place this beer in any style, it would be an american inspired Sweedish IPA (In Sweeden they are only allowed to sell beers under 3.5% in normal shops, to get anything else you have to go to the state controlled beer/wine shops).

You are allways welcome to drop by the brewery and sample the beer :-)
this week, next week I'll be in Austin Texas at the Craft Brewers Conference (YeeeHaaa) Beef and Beer, and a lot of semminars :-)

Cheers

I got $100 and a list for you for next week Kasper :P

I think I read in ØlentusiasteN that the comp was open to home brewers as well... In the Copenhagen forum on RateBeer they talk about what they want to brew and even Ole is in making a comment now and again and he does not say anything about the comp only being for the "pro's" as a matter of fact, just the opposit.
In any case, whats wrong with mowing the lawn with a Double APA in one hand and a Saison in the cup holder? :P :D
