NHC 2014 Seminar Schedule

Thu May 01, 2014 6:20 am

I found this to be super duper helpful last year when Chris put it together (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=30527). Made one this year.

Do File -> Download. If you are printing the spreadsheet, make sure to fit it to a page.
XLSX - http://bit.ly/1kmyALT
PDF - http://bit.ly/1i1fVUp

Let me know if I messed anything up or you think I should add anything. Say hey at NHC if you are there.

Why didn't I look here first?

I just copied everything to a Word doc today and went through some formatting and then deleted the stuff I didn't want to do.

There are a ton of great seminars this year and a lot of conflicts. I figure I'll hit the ones that will probably have some tasting portion (Nate's Hop talk, the food/beer paring, and Moonlights sour mead) and then get the others on the audio later (BJCP2014 update, wort aeration, etc).

Now time to enter everything into my Google calendar!

Killer line up this year for sure. I plan to do the same with my calendar for certain talks (Nate and Tasty are must attend talks) but for the most part I'm gonna wing it.

Just a heads up, Steve, that there will most likely NOT be sour meads for sampling at the seminar. Distribution laws in Michigan are looking difficult at best. Basically the product would have to be registered with the Feds, then the state of Michigan. The product is then sold to a Michigan distributor, then to the AHA/BA and served to you all at the conference. Then the producer reimburses the AHA/BA for the cost.
This is not the quickest of processes. Last year we piled anything into the truck and drove it down to Philadelphia. We brought whatever we wanted. Not going to be the same this year.
If you want to try the sour meads come by and see me. You know where I am.

Cheers guys! Yes, most definitely attend the Brewcasters' talk this year. Tasty is the master of consistency and controlling the variables on brew day. You'll learn all about how he stays on top of that.

And I certainly want to see your hungover faces bright and early on Saturday morning at my "Brewing with New Hop Varieties" talk. I'll talk all about new American hop varieties, what is new and different about what is available and how to think about developing new recipes around them.

I will talk specifically about these hops, their sensory perception, including recipe examples.

* Apollo
* Citra
* Belma
* Steiner 06300 & 05256 – some of you may remember Justin naming 6300 “Dragon Semen IPA” from our So Cal homebrew trip last year!
* Mosaic / HBC 369
* Citra, Nelson, Mosaic, Galaxy - in combination
* Saphir & ADHA 871
* Azacca
* Legacy
* HBC 344
* HBC 366/Equinox
* El Dorado
* Legacy/Mosaic/Citra - in combination with Brett!

Complete with a Hop Grenade beer to sample during the talk from Adam Mills of Crankers Brewery featuring 05256, Legacy and Belma!

Cheers!!
Cheers! Kippis! Skål! Prost!
