But to go back to his original question -

We have only answered why a higher efficiency decreases hop utilization and therefore IBU's. I do not know of any correlation between increased mash efficiency and INCREASED IBU's. Can you give us a specific example with your software? How much of an increase in efficiency is needed to bump the IBU's? I am on the same thinking with Spider and Dirk, that if you increase your efficiency then the IBU's decrease by a touch (usually not much, but a tad). At least that is what I have noticed on my brewing software too (ProMash).

Doh... shoulda gone back and read that. I was baffled by the initial question... Dirk's drunken ramblings made sense to me as far as it potentially causing it to lower, never thought to check that's what the OP was asking.

Just pulled up BeerSmith, and the relationship between efficiency is that as E goes up, IBU goes down, vice versa. So my guess would be that it's just his software, as my understanding of the topic knows of no reason why it should do that, and it seems neither does Brad Smith's...

It is just the software. Thanks for the replies. The IBUS are jumping around each time i open and close the particular recipe I was discussing.
