Where you finding C150 ? Looked at my local guys shop (online, haven't been in to talk to them yet), Northern Brewer and Morebeer and see nothing. Or, is C150 just Special B?

From Morebeers site:

Special B Malt
GR593
(140 - 155 L)

I was thinking Simpson's Extra Dark, but I saw it was listed as 160L by Northern Brewer. I googled "Crystal 150 malt" and saw the Great Western makes one that you can find at some on-line suppliers.

Just finished an attempt at this. I haven't done a side by side, but it's pretty close in color and aroma. From memory it tastes similar, but I won't know how close it is until I can compare.

I couldn't find C150 so I went with C120:

86% Pale Malt
7.7% Special B
6.3% C120

Followed the same hopping schedule as CYBI recipe. I decided to dry hop mine with 1oz of Chinook for 5 days.

Fermented at 69, then ramped up to 71 towards the last 3rd of fermentation.

I toured Stone in December and when looking at my phone came across a couple pictures...

Image
Looks like a lot of Dingemans Special B being used...

Not a very clear picture... but the sacks in the middle almost looks like it says C-150 in orange, probably Great Western like the C-15 on the right of the page in Red. (full size picture link)

Looking at the new Stone book and the recipes included in the back, most of the darkers beers listed that require crystal malt list C-150L. So, I believe Tasty is right in his assumption that C-150L is the key. I do not doubt Special B gets you close, however. Stone does enough one-offs and collaborations that the Special B could be for anything. But, I view the Levitation as a somewhat smaller version of Arrogant Bastard and the XII Anniversary to be a similar/bigger version of Arrogant Bastard (yes, I know there is a Double Bastard). I am also of the belief that the other thing missing in the recipe is the normal Stone hopping, as Jamil has said. Probably 2/3's of the IBUs coming at 90 minutes and 1/3 coming at the 20 minute whirlpool. Also, there has to be some form of dryhopping? Is there a hop-forward beer that Stone doesn't dryhop? :D None come to mind.
