Openning a carbonated keg

Thu Apr 28, 2011 6:32 pm

So I brewed 2 kegs worths of a Mild, dry hopped 1 keg the other I didnt.

Now that I have tasted both the dry hopping made the beer, would it be safe to de-gas the one keg and drop a tea ball of hops in there to try to get it closer to the other keg?.

Also thought about maybe tossing a couple oak chips instead to have 2 different beers.

Suggestions?

It will foam up. That said, you could probably do it, just get ready to get that lid back on fast.

You've got a plan to get the hops back out of there after a decent interval, right?

was figuring just toss the ball in and drink it fast, the other keg is going down real easy between me and the wife. Something about a 3%Abv beer that makes it too easy to drink.

No kidding. The desire to have more session beers on tap led to my recent step up to 10 gallon batches. Hard to invest 6 hours of time into something you know is going to be gone in a week.

The reason I mentioned it was that I had a english brown I threw on hops in the keg, then forgot about it. A month later it tasted like chewing on composted lawn trimmings.

Only before they've been composted. Never after.

Vented and opened no foam. Dry hops in dangling just below the surface of the beer. Hope this will help.
