Always connected. I clean the lines at least every 2nd keg. I spray posts and connectors with star san prior to connecting and if disconnecting. (works great as a lubricant for easier "on"). In the winter not so much but in spring and summer I spray starsan up the faucet after pouring ...... fruit flies are a problem
