Rogue Imerial IPA

While I was really excited at the thought of a strong IPA, I have to say that I am really disappointed. The bottle is a beautiful stoneware bottle that has as flip top. I hope to re-use this for a show piece. As for the beer itself, it has a thick head and some legs in the glass. Nice straw color with a bit of haze. The aroma is where I get really let down. It has the funkies smell I have ever smelled in a production beer. I don't know what the actual flavor and aroma come from, but if it were my beer I would have thought it was infected. I got a really stong skunk and ass smell from it. It tasted like skunk juice, and not in a good way. The alcohol flavor didn't help lift this falvor off the toungue at all, but did help to blur the memory of just how nasty this beer was for me.
In the end I have to say a few more things. I first want to say that I am a Rogue fan and I do like a lot of their beers. I do like strong IPAs and hops flavors and aromas, but I don't know what this smell was. I have not been able to figure out what the hops were that made that smell. They used Saaz and Cascade and one other that I can't remember right now. So I don't know what else to say. I will also say that at almost $13.00, it's a bit too pricey for the results.
I don't recommend this beer unfortunately. I hop eto hear any feedback on this if you have tried it.

Beer Bear, I am guessing you got a bad bottle for some reason. It may have been mishandled or something. I have found this to be a decent IIPA with a good hop aroma of the typical aroma hops of the NW. I say give it another shot, although the price tag makes that hard. The bottles do rock!

Thanks BB, I have thought about it. Yeah the idea of spending another 12 dollars for a bad beer again is the big blocking point for me though. I might try to talk a couple of my brewing buddies into doing it with me. That way we can have a brewers round table taste test. It might be that my taste buds were just out of whack that day. But I have to admit that I'm in no real hurry to do it.
