Beer donations to Avenue Pub in NO for Gulf coast fisherman

Wed Jun 16, 2010 8:43 am

I don't mean to advertise, but this is a good cause and I love this pub for bringing great beer into LA. Polly Watts (her contact info is at the bottom of the email I copied) is organizing a fundraiser and is soliciting rare beers for auction in an effort to raise cash for folks who are losing their livelihoods as a direct result of the BP spill, so far this is what I know:

More Fundraiser Updates!

The Pub has designated the Gulf Relief Foundation as the recipient of the funds we raise. The date of the event has not been set yet but we should have that firmed up by the middle of next week. Look for it in July or early August.

The Gulf Relief Foundation is a zero administrative costs Charity. The same foundation that brought you Gulf Aid it is a 501(c3) nonprofit corporation, has been established in response to what has been called one of the biggest oil spills in history just 50 miles off of the Louisiana Coast. The mission of the Gulf Relief Foundation is to provide relief to the fishing community of the Gulf Coast and their families, and to address the long-term challenge of restoring and protecting America’s coastal wetlands. All dollars raised during this donation drive at The Avenue Pub will be given directly to aid in recovery efforts.

All gross proceeds from the event will be donated back to the charity. People wishing to make cash donations can make their checks out to the Gulf Relief Foundation and mail or bring them to the Pub (we will make a big deal out of presenting them to the charity) or go online and contribute directly to the foundation through their online setup. Please do not make out checks directly to the Pub. I have committed to cover all the costs of the event which includes sales tax. Checks written directly to the foundation will not incur sales tax. The Pub address is 1732 St Charles Ave, New Orleans, La 70130.

So far we have the following committed donations:
Saints game private party on the balcony for you and 50 of your friends. Beer provided will be announced at a later date. ( first game of the season excluded)
Use of Private apartment in the French Quarter for up to a week. May be used for French quarter fest, Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest or another date. one parking spot comes with it. apartment is a small efficiency with one double bed, kitchenette and bathroom. Two people maximum. Fridge will be stocked with great beer for your stay!

emailed later in the day, she is still looking for donations to be auctioned off, and if you have a trip planned to NO, this would be an excellent thing to stop by and bid on rare beers! Date has yet to be set.

Hey all:
This is a great thing that Avenue pub is doing and Polly would really appreciate a bit of publicity for it if possible, just tweeting and a possible mention via word of mouth.

Saturday August 28th from 1pm till 9pm
Gulf coast fisherman fundraiser & rare beer auction. The bottles that have been donated are outstanding...inclduing rare Cantillons and Westies, verticals of Stone Vertical Epic, Old Raspy anniversary series, Rejewvantor and the list goes on and one. A bunch of BA top 100 beers that are NOT in commerical production.

The Rare beer auction list is final and the lots are broken down on the webpage!
http://avenuepub.com/gulf-coast-families-benefit.htm

Please tweet and post all over the place so we can really raise some good money for the fishing communites on the gulf coast!
Tickets are on sale now. $30 in advance and 35 at the door. Each ticket gets your 4 draft beers! All gross proceeds from the event will be donated back to the Gulf Relief Foundation.
