How to clean a picnic tap

Tue May 18, 2010 7:07 pm

YAY!!! another retarded question.

I bought an already built picnic tap from Northern Brewer and now I need to clean it.

It's got one of the crimped clamps on the keg connector side. The faucet part is just pressed into the tubing with no clamp on it. I've found that the top of the faucet unscrews, but I still can't seem to get liquid to run through the entire line.

WTF am I doing wrong?

I don't want to necessarily remove the crimped clamp because I did that on the already built gas line I bought and I now can't get a hose clamp tight enough to keep it from leaking CO2.

so, do I really have to fill a keg with star-san, pressurise it with CO2 and push it out through the picnic tap?

Halp!

Thanks

Matt

I've found the same problem. Without taking it apart, how the fuck do you get the liquid out of the line once it's disconnected?

take the disconnect apart and open the faucet end. That will open both ends allowing liguid to run through freely.

OR use an empty keg and put 1/2gal of your favorite sanitizer (say starsan) and dispense away!

How do I take a disconnect apart?

Does the top of this screw off too?

The slot in the white thingy on top is for a fat screwdriver or coin. It unscrews releasing the spring and valve/pin assembly. Cleaning is then a piece of cake.

Sweet! I had no idea they came apart and I've never seen anyone take one apart or heard anyone talking about taking them apart.

I'll take it apart tonight, clean everything up, then reassemble and run some starsan through it from my scotty I still have to clean from the SCHBF.

Thanks for the help!!!
