Keg Cleaning Tools

I am rather tool illiterate and I have very few, in order to disassemble a corny keg, what do I need? It seems I need a ratchet of some sort, but does anyone know the traditional sizes? All of my kegs seems to have one inlet that is a hexagon and an outlet that is 12-sided. Any help would be great.

I'm not at home so I can't check. If you purchase a ratchet and socket, make sure the socket has 12 sides.

I use an extra deep 3/4" (I think) socket. The first one was six-sided, and would not work on the 12-sided outlet. I also have a 3/4" box end wrench, a adjustable wrench for my gas fittings, and a nut driver for the hose clamps on the quick connects. With the exception of some keg lube and a few extra O-ring replacement sets, that's all I have in my keg tool box.

Yeah, I am illiterate as well, but thanks to this forum I found that a 22mm combination wrench will do the trick for both the star and hexagon posts. It is a tight fit, but with a little wiggle they fit perfect and with just a half turn you will loosen the posts enough to then turn by hand. The American equivalent in inches that is a hair bigger works as well. Of course you can geek out and get a deep socket and rachet as well. But for $ 8.99 at Home Depot the combination wrench works perefect.
Happy kegging. :aaron

A 7/8" deep socket will take care of both posts on most kegs. A few take a 9/16".
