how do I fix a leaky relief valve?

Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:49 pm

As I said, this relief valve leaks so I took it off to see what was going on. It seems to be working properly. there aren't any gasket that can be replaced. anyone got any tricks to get these valves working again. I don't want to spend $30 for a new lid, or even $15 for this new valve which may or may not fit: https://morebeer.com/view_product/18215 ... -_Standard

Make sure there is no dirt or anything on the sealing surfaces, then try a tiny bit of keg lube on the rubber part.

Other than that, there's nothing else you can do but replace the valve. I have seen them elsewhere for about $8. No need to replace the lid.

I think the bottom of those style relief valves has a little circle of rubber that creates the seal. If that dries out or falls off, then the relief valve will not seal. I think a new valve will fix the problem...

Last gasp effort, a little teflon tape around the screw post as you screw it into the lid might help.

why does teflon tape around the threads help if the seal is at the bottom of the spring?

Won't. I had a bad lid where the seat was pitted. Not really fixable, so I drilled it out and had a coupling welded in to make a carbonator lid.

Teflon tape won't do you any good. Like you said, the seal is between the valve seat an the valve - under spring tension. BDawg must be hitting the bottle (or 6) again before posting.
