I ponied up the cash for a bottle of Duvel last weekend. (at more than $8 a bottle at my store that IS ponying up cash.)
At first I didn't enjoy the beer. I especially didn't enjoy the mess it made of my kitchen when I popped the cork. Then I paired my glass with a good Polish dill pickle and I was quite happy with it. The sour note from the brew went very well with the sour of the pickle! Just a note I wanted to make about my Duvel experience.
Glad I thought of the pickle, but what can I say, I'm a Polak... we cleanse our pallets with horseradish and vinegar lol.

It's been my experience that virtually every bottle tastes different. Some of the bottles are great. Some not so much...
I'm always willing to take the bet on it being a great batch of Duvel!

I had a bottle of Duvel that was "aged" in a buddies locker at work for a year. Then he gave it to me. There was some crusty, dried beer around the cork - and when I tasted it - it had a touch of Brett character... it was the best bottle of Duvel I EVER had! I love Duvel - Brett or not. Fantastic beer. Good for "the morning after" too, as Doc has attested to.

but on a serious note, i think all beer tastes like fermented sugar, it's pretty much the primary focus of making beer ... fermenting sugar
