I don't mean to advertise, but this is a good cause and I love this pub for bringing great beer into LA. Polly Watts (her contact info is at the bottom of the email I copied) is organizing a fundraiser and is soliciting rare beers for auction in an effort to raise cash for folks who are losing their livelihoods as a direct result of the BP spill, so far this is what I know:
More Fundraiser Updates!
The Pub has designated the Gulf Relief Foundation as the recipient of the funds we raise. The date of the event has not been set yet but we should have that firmed up by the middle of next week. Look for it in July or early August.
The Gulf Relief Foundation is a zero administrative costs Charity. The same foundation that brought you Gulf Aid it is a 501(c3) nonprofit corporation, has been established in response to what has been called one of the biggest oil spills in history just 50 miles off of the Louisiana Coast. The mission of the Gulf Relief Foundation is to provide relief to the fishing community of the Gulf Coast and their families, and to address the long-term challenge of restoring and protecting America’s coastal wetlands. All dollars raised during this donation drive at The Avenue Pub will be given directly to aid in recovery efforts.
All gross proceeds from the event will be donated back to the charity. People wishing to make cash donations can make their checks out to the Gulf Relief Foundation and mail or bring them to the Pub (we will make a big deal out of presenting them to the charity) or go online and contribute directly to the foundation through their online setup. Please do not make out checks directly to the Pub. I have committed to cover all the costs of the event which includes sales tax. Checks written directly to the foundation will not incur sales tax. The Pub address is 1732 St Charles Ave, New Orleans, La 70130.
