Newbie in San Antonio.

Ive been lurking awhile and just wanted to say Hi.
Ive been brewing for about 8yrs - extract and mini until this year. Id always said I wanted to do AG, but just kept putting it off.
Looking at the Brew Sculpture section got me inspired 8) , so this year I finally got serious about getting my AG gear together.

Ive got a buddy that I brew with, so far we've done (4) 10gal. AG batches: 2 APAs, a RyePA, and a Porter - all of which turned out really good.
I kick my self in the ass for not switching to AG sooner - its kind of like the feeling you get when you finally switch from bottling to kegging... enlightening.

Hey There

Welcome Wetmore.

I had the same experience moving to all grain. Not sure what I was scared of.

Got any pics of your rig?

Cheers,

Yeah, looking back it was kinda' silly to be apprehensive about the switch to AG, but I guess I was the same way when I did my first extract batch. I didnt have anyone showing me, just the internet and a couple of books (Miller's and Papazian's).

I posted a couple pics of my rig in the Brew Sculpture section...

welcome and almost as important as any brewing question i could ask is this: is the All-Star Gentleman's Cafe still open? if not, it is truly a great tragedy. if so, do you have an MVP card? and if you have never been, shame on you for 6 weeks. i haven't been to SA in 10 years so i am sure much has changed but i hope that club is still open. i was station at fort sam twice and i love san antonio. great town. welcome.
I'm enjoying my 6-pack....my 6-pack of Superbowl trophies!

As far as I know, All-Star's is still open... allthough the last time I was actually there was a couple of years ago for a friend's bachelor party.

Negative on the MVP card... the wife is ok with the occasional bachelor party, but becoming a regular is not gonna happen.

Welcome fellow Texan! Ever made it over to Blue Star Brewing? I have thought about taking a trip to San Antonio sometime to visit my sister and the brewpub.

BlueStar has some really good brews! Im a huge fan of their KingWilliam barleywine... ocassionally they have a cask ale too.

The only thing I dont really like about BlueStar is the fact that there isnt anything else to do but sit at the bar (no pool tables, dart boards, or shuffleboard).
Not that sitting at the bar is a Bad thing, but when I go out, I like to Do something... if I wanted to talk - I'd have stayed home with the wife. :?
