Temporary greetings from Buenos Aires

Sun Mar 23, 2008 4:04 pm

Hola from BA, I'm a new brewer from Portland, OR whose currently breweryless in Buenos Aires. I've been curing my any homesickness with brewing research and I'm gonna sleep in my brewery when I get back. I started brewing in November and came does here in January so i've only got 4 batches under my belt:

A 2-beer, extract brewday making ordinary bitter and toad spit stout from Charlie P, an all-grain maibock on thanksgiving (a drunken mess) and an all-grain Cream Ale (all late hopped with Mt. Hood, was very happy with this beer) for my Milwaukeean bro for christmas.

I figured since I was hammering through the archives I might as well sign up and try to give something back (eventually). If this town doesn't run me completely dry, I'll join the "service" when I get back. Also, I'm writing a reverse engineered version of the BYO spreadsheet tool, because I'm unbelievably nerdy (and the BYO version is a good place to start but a little weak and awkward...).

Cheers from BA

For most part, everybody drinks a terrible domestic lager called Quilmes. However, "Cervezas Artesenales" aren't too hard to find. An old-wood pub across the street from me serves a pale (lluvia), an amber (colorado) and a stout (negra) and they're all decent. The colorado has a decent maltiness, isn't too syrupy and has a crazy huge grapefruit-cascades hop flavor as well as aroma. How about yourself?
