I do 2 carboys at a time soaked in a large platic bin of water. I keep the temperature set to within one degree using an aquarium chiller. The pumps in the water that push the water to the chiller generate heat so I have not need a heater here in california.

With this method I was able to ferment a marzen at 55 degrees when the garage was at 95. ATM im doing a brown ale at 61 degrees and the garage is in the 40-50s.

They are working on it... trust me motion is happening.
I spoke with one of the developers the other night and most of the parts have been ordered for the beta units so we should see something soonish I would hope.

What will thus said "brewdroid" do exactly, a digital temp control? If so, what makes it different from other digital temp controls?

If you already have a controller, then you could try cotrolling your tempsteh way I do it.

I put an insulated heated fermentor in an uncontrolled fridge. The heater on teh fermentor is the bit you run via your ranco controller, not the fridge. That way you can use any fridge you have, and still use it as a fridge and freezer, while you beer ferments in it.

Anuway, rather than re-typing, I have posted details and pictures in this thread on another forum (Aussie Homebrewer) The link is to my first post, but read on a bit and I have posted a couple more pictures and some more detail

Cheers

I can't get approval on the dedicated fridge yet, so I use a big fishing cooler in the basement. In the winter, my basement is about 50-55 degrees, so I use a ferm-wrap and a temp controller to bring it up to ale temps. I haven't done a lager.

In the summer the basement gets up to around 70 and I throw some ice/ice packs in the cooler, still using the ferm-wrap to keep the temp steady. I tape the sensor to the outside of the glass carboy, and tape some bubble wrap over it. It's worked pretty well to keep the temps under control. Its a little more difficult in the summer, but manageable.
