Hello From MI!!! From that City that Justin can't pronounce.

Mon Oct 22, 2007 3:51 pm

I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. My username suggests that I am an engineer. Yes, I am Vehicle Dynamics test engineer for an OEM. I am responsible for overseeing all ride and handling development for our North American products. So, basically I am the crazy nutjob that wears a helmet and firesuit at work. I live in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area of MI. I am married and one child on the way. I also have a partially finished basement project that is currently being redesigned in my head to accommodate my new hobby!

Well, Hello, and I am sure I will be posting all sorts of newbie questions along the way as we build our brewery.

I got 2 beer under my belt, and learning from all the mistakes as I go. The BN podcasts have been helping alot. I got to listen to the Sunday show live for the first time last night. Justin even made a wisecrack about me not knowing anything....sad thing is...he was right. But with everyones help and input along the way, I will be up to speed in no time.

As an engineer, I got a pretty big thirst for knowledge about the technical side of things and knowing as much about something as possible.

Welcome fellow engineer!!! There is definitly a wealth of knowledge contained within the podcasts and this website, if you can filter through the asshattery. But that's what makes it fun!

I'm a Biomedical Engineer myself. I don't get to wear a firesuit, but I do develop cool gadgets used in surgeries all over.

Isn't Jamil a Software Engineer or something like that? The badthing about engineers in brewing is that we want to know EVERYTHING and how to control everything at all times. The uncertainty of the final product is sort of killing me. So untill I get more batches under my belt, this hobby is a little bit of the unknown for me.

But hey, we engineers can build some pretty kick ass gadgets, and there is a lot of opertunity for that in the brewing process. I just finished making a stirplate for yeast starters. I used a LM317T to build a voltage regulator circuit to control the fanspeed. I used a harddrive arm magnet instead of the circular rare earth magnets that people are using. I can get the fan up to 12V(2900 RMMs) and it doesn't through the magnet.

FWIW, I'm a SW Engr too, with almost enough EE classes to qualify for a minor, but I was in the Signal Corps back in my (US) Army days.
