HELP with keg cooler info..

Thu Sep 13, 2007 6:49 pm

I need to find a keg cooler ASAP. We're remodeling and the cabinet guy needs dimensions. I want to cool two of the 5 gallon pop type kegs - about 8 inches diameter, 26 inches high, I understand. We'll run lines out of it to some remote taps... I need to find a cooler that will handle them and not break the bank... where do I find them?

Thanks

lane sounds like you need either a sanyo 4911 or 4912. I have read that the two have some small variations but the 4912 will work for a kegerator. Here is the link to the 4912 at best buy it also has the measurements on that page too. http://tinyurl.com/272568

That's the exact fridge I have, Sanyo 4912. Remove the plastic from the door, and you can even put a 6.5gal carboy in there.

Thanks all! I found a fridge that works perfectly.... now - I need to run my lines about 4 feet away. I need to cool the lines somehow and am looking for advice. I'm thinking of using dryer vent pipe, the flex kind, running a computer fan to, somehow, move air in there..... ideas?

NOTE I'VE NEVER TRIED THIS.....
But here is what I was thinking....
a thin walled tube or 2 that is tightly bound (yay doc!) with the beer lines.
through this tube is fed antifreeze (or water) from a holding tank in the fridge, small pump... wrap the whole thing in that foam pipe insulation..return line is insulated and slightly away from the others...
So if you want a project it might be fun, let me know how it goes.

Along the same lines as Bub's suggestion, take a look at counterflow chiller. Build a shorter, non coiled version and pull beer through the middle and pump glycol or at least cold water through the outside. This should be easy to do with plastic pipe fittings and tubing in place of the usual copper.

Don't forget about condensation. I know this brewpub owner that runs a long draw system similar to what you guys are talking about and didn't count on the amount of condensation created and had to replace the ceiling below.

Using your dryer vent idea w/ Bub & Bugeaters plan might work for this. I'm sure that most of the line will be at an incline so if you run your cooling system inside of a dryer vent you can direct the condensation to a pan. Of course, I guess you'd have to empty it periodically.

Good point on the condensation - I'll keep that in mind.

Wayne - not sure I"m following you. Are you talking about a wort chiller? Just running the lines along the beer line or something?

Thanks guys
