Assort-a-port-er!

Thu Jul 26, 2007 8:07 pm

So I am brewing my first JZ recipe this weekend. I am gonna basically do a 12 gallon batch of his Robust Porter and split it into 2, 6 gallon batches. With one I'm gonna make his Vanilla Robust Porter and the other is going to be his Chocolate Hazelnut Robust Porter.

Anyone had good luck with these? Any suggestions? Anyone wearing pants?

Hold on BadRock....let me pull up my pants. 8) I brewed my first Jamil recipe in the form of the Chocolate Hazelnut Porter about 2 months ago. I'd have to say it was perfect. Maybe a little heavy on the chocolate for me but every one who tried it disagreed with me. I'm not a huge chocolate guy so that might be why. I wouldn't adjust a thing. I have seen interpretations of his recipe call for both Cal Ale style yeast and English Ale yeast. I split my batch and used WLP001 and WLP002. I ended up prefering the 001. The biggest suggestion I could give would be to set some aside...I still have a few bottles and they just seem to be getting better.

Cheers!

Thanks for the help man. But I am going postpone that brew until next weekend I think. I stopped by Avery Brewing Co. today and they hooked me up with some of their English ale yeast that they use in their IPA's, so I am now looking for a great IPA or APA recipe anyone have a good one?
I really love Amarillo hops so am kind of leaning more towards an APA.

Dude I think I just read your post...the wife knocked it over huh.. Nasty! If your still looking for a great IPA recipe you gotta brew a Racer 5 clone. It's from Bear Republic just down the road in Healdsburg CA.who one the Small Brewing Company and Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year award at the GABF in 2006. It's without a doubt my favorite IPA. Not sure if you can pick it up over there but check it out....here's a few links..

About Racer 5

The Recipe

Although I would substitute the Chinook and or the Centennial for Columbus....read and you'll see why.

Cheers!

What time of day were you there? I was there from 4:30 to close. Too bad we didn't hook up. Had to go get drunk with Brancid instead.

Like (url=http://thebrewingnetwork.com)this(/url).
Like this.

But use square braces where I have put parentheses.
What's on tap: Cream Ale, Imperial Blonde
Secondary: British Amber,
Primary: APA

Ya I'm sorry I missed ya. I was there at about 5:15 after a long shitty day at work and forgot all about you coming into town. But sounds like you got hooked up with a good dude. I met Brancid just recently myself and he's all right, even invited the wife and I over for a poker game. One of these nights I might even take him up on it.

Anyway, I do apologize!

Oh and thanks for the help with the IPA's J.Brew, I decided to do an Avery clone but I think I'm gonna do one of yours soon after.
