Man, it sucks being new.

Hey everyone. I just started brewing about 5 months ago. My first extract really sucked and now Im working on a hefe with cloves added. I live in the StL area where theres only one homebrew store. The sad thing is I could order most things off morebeer.com for cheaper.

Welcome to the BN! Good luck with the Hefe, adding cloves sounds like it may be trivial. Let us know how that works out for you.

Glad you joined up, Brant.

My first batch was horrific too. Keep listening to the BN... you'll be amazed what you can brew.

p.s. Don't ever add cloves to a Hef' again. :)

Welcome!

There are two, and three if you count the east side.

St. Louis Wine & Beermaking - East end of Chesterfield
Worm's Way - On N. Warson, I think this is considered Olivette.
William James Trading Co, formerly Dave's Homebrew - Belleville

The one in St. Charles closed.

Are you a member of the St. Louis Brews?
Oh, and on the hefe, what yeast did you use? What was the fermentation temp?

what kind of stuff do they have at worm's way? I checked out their site a couple weeks ago and didnt notice anything except for hydroponic equip. I'm not a member of any clubs, havent gotten far enough to let outsiders try my beer. I used the wyeast weihenstephan and had it go at about 68 F. I also added some munich to increase the body, kinda anti wheat-like but didnt want something weak.

next time chill your wort to below sixty and slowly let it rise to 64-68F.
Lower temps= more cloves less banana

I agree with Shapirro. Let the yeast do the flavoring for the beer. The fermentation temperature is the key to bringing out what your after.
