It is a clear indicator of why we brew like we do now though.. Necessity and all this SHIYIT!

Thanks Lufah, for taking FOUR for the team, and pouring out the rest I assume?

Ya I couldn't finish 3 of the 4. The wheat one was pretty good and the rest all sucked and went down the sink. I kinda assume they drank it because it's all they had. Like pruno in prison.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

I posted my review a while back here

http://geistbear.blogware.com/blog/_arc ... 98745.html

I think one key problem Lufah from the sound of it you started with the darker beer and I wonder it biased your palette. I had the honey-ginger first and enjoyed it as a summer ale. Then I had the root beer, and then dark wheat and finished with the Porter. I think my approach allowed the beers to be enjoyed better.

That said I don't think these beers would appeal to any Hophead.

Lufah, I with you on the Ginger Beer. I would rather lick the bottom of Dr. Scott's boots after he comes in from the farm. Yep, it's that bad. The GW porter was OK. The wheat was something closer that we would homebrew. Don't know why the hell they included the root beer. Nasty.

But, if this is indeed historically accurate representation of colonial beer, then I'm glad I got to try it. I can't imagine how much of a risk it was for Sam Adams to put this 4 bottle sampler out at 12 bucks a box. The folks on this forum have a pretty open mind when it comes to "experimental" beer but this crap was too much for me.

My Wife found this set of beers on clearance at BEVMO in Sacramento. I agree with your results except the ginger honey was at least drinkable. I wouldnt have done it but aparently somone must have made a decent one at one time. The Rootbeer ruined my tastebuds and so did the porter.
I expeced more , Waisted 4 bucks.

I had this pack as well. I agree about the Porter and the Root Beer. The Root Beer especially was offensive! Ugh!

On the other hand I enjoyed the James Madison Dark Wheat (was glad to see it was drinkable seeing as its my Alma Mater). Like Geistbier, I found the honey ginger I found to be a nice refreshing beer (I drank it on another night than the Dark Wheat).

It was many years before Budweiser, so they needed a benchmark for bad beer.
I had to replace my motion sensor light on the front of my house. I made a mistake and replaced it with a emotion sensor light. Every time the guy across the street from me got mad at his wife, it would turn on.
