New From Central PA

Fri Nov 23, 2012 7:28 am

Hey all,

I'm a new home brewer with only two weeks of experience with a pale ale as my first attempt. But I'll say that in this short time I've learned more about beer than I've ever known, and have set the goal of all grain brewing in the future.

I visit Marzoni's in Altoona often, and I think Marzoni's has the best craft beer in Central PA, and I visit Otto's in State College on occasion, but I have to travel an hour to get to those places. ANd in my local area you only get Coors / Milller lite draft beer, so that's how I realized that if I wanted to enjoy good beer often then I'd have to brew my own. I can't wait to brew a few session beers for the summer.

I'm located near Altoona / Clearfield PA, any home brewers in my area?

Welcome!
Its amazing how fast this hobby hits a guy. Pretty soon you'll be dreaming of making starters and wiring up a homemade stirplate. :bnarmy:

Welcome! Remember the old saying, if you want something done right you have to brew it yourself.

Hey there!! we are glad to have you aboard! I still find it comical when I go to a local restaurant where I live (Western NY) and ask what kind of beers they have and am told "Oh we've got'em all!!! Coors, Budweiser, Miller, and Labatts!!! It makes me smile thinking of all the tasty beer I've got back at home... :jnj

Welcome to the asshattery! It's really amazing how quickly you can go from a pot on the stove to brewing outside on a 3 vessel RIMS or HERMS... that you completely designed & built yourself. When I was working chairlifts at a ski resort, I drew up plans for dozens of systems on the back of my report sheets while sitting in the top shack.

Ditto. I don't even bother with the bars anymore. Why pay $6 a pint when I've got better beer on tap 4 steps away from my couch & a short drunken fall down the stairs to my bed?
