Chicago Brew Bus - Any one ever done it?

Tue Aug 07, 2012 9:01 am

Howdy,

My wife & I are going to Chicago for a week at the end of August and I did a search for brewery tours and the Chicago Brew Bus came up, they seem to go to three brewerys for 55 bucks & you get a sampler board and time to order a pint. Anyone in the BN Army ever done this before?
Thanks & Have a good one,

Not the brew bus, but I've pub crawled all over Chicago from the train/subway/el system for $5.75/day(unlimited). http://www.transitchicago.com/travel_in ... cards.aspx

The walking, waiting, riding train, walking, etc. gives you about a hour break in between stops to sober up which can be refreshing.

Haven't done it personally but I have been at all three places a number of times when the Brew Bus rolls in. They seem to take care of the crew well and the places on the tour are the real deal. Haymarket and Goose Island Clybourn should be on any beer-centric itin in Chicago.

As mentioned above, all the primary beer geek places are easily reachable by El (or short cab rides if you are pressed for time and willing to spend a little more.)

Cool, So perhaps just using the map on my phone and a metro pass for in town then. Thanks!

Ted, feel free to PM me if you want any help, recs, or whatnot. We have a really good beer scene here and you should get a good taste of it while you are out here.

Hey there! I know this post is dated, and your trip has already come and gone, but I just wanted to leave a comment. I own the Brew Bus, and even though the $55 price may seem steep, lets break this down:

Goose Island Flight: $8
AVG Haymarket Flight: $9.50 (they charge per beer 4oz beer)
Revolution Flight: $8
Gratuity at all 3: $6

So you're at $31.50, the cost of your bus pass is another $5.75, you're up to $36.75

You're looking at less than a $20 upcharge for the experience of having a guided tour of Chicago's beer history, as well as other pertinent information every tourist should learn, AND a tour of Haymarket and Revolution

You locals should take one of our tours to the suburbs!
