I've had buckets where the volume was spot on and some that were off by a gallon

Edit: I guess that would only be a valid issue if it was a new bucket starting with these "off" batches.

Hmmmm...let me check that possibility Scott, thanks.

<edit> I did get a new bucket a few batches ago

This is a weird problem for me...I have sometimes had minor problems with my gravity and boil-off, but nothing like this before.

My Brewhouse efficiency is 65%...kept that setting from the old software where I used to hit my numbers damn near every time.

Try to boil a little harder on your next brew day, I know it helped me ALOT! :bnarmy:

This is a known issue with BeerSmith that the BeerSmith folks don't seem to be bothered by.
The issue is with the 'trub/chiller losses' field. BeerSmith does not handle it correctly.
I was using the workaround of using '0' for that setting, but another user on here has said that even doing that, the numbers do not jive with those done by hand. The '0' trub loss seems to be as good as you can get without doing it by hand, and seems close enough.
Watch scaling multiple times, or switching between equipment also, things seem to ratchet up, or go completely haywire.

Well, I made some adjustments to my equipment profile to adjust for deadspace, etc. and now I am hitting my numbers again.

Interesting thing about BeerSmith, it keeps it's own copy of ingredients, equipment, etc. for each recipe you create, so if you change your equipment profile, only future recipes you create with that profile will inherit the changes. Existing recipes will not change. If you re-use a previous version of a recipe, you need to remember to change the equipment profile, etc. and re-save that recipe to use the new profile with the saved changes.
