Trip to Jamaica

Sun Nov 19, 2006 5:31 pm

My wife wants to take a trip to Jamaica for my retirement from the AF. Anyone have any good ideas/experiences? She's leaning towards the Sandals at Ochos Rios...Ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I was pretty satisfied when I went to Sandals... it was Bahamas but They seem like good people
.... I would suggest one of the Hedonism resorts... haven't been but why not.

Not sure I could get the wife to Hedonism. I may never be able to brew beer again after that.

the only thing i will say about traveling is to NOT book through Orbitz. Got screwed a few months ago and I will never use those ass clowns again. the hotel was over booked, we even confirmed with them but everyone that came in with us that used orbitz got shipped to a different hotel. if you're going after the 1st of the year, take your passport!!!

I took a cruise that docked in Montego Bay, Jamacia. The coast was beautiful, the swimming and snorkeling were awesome, and the coastal bars (including Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville with a giant water slide) were great.

Then we went in-land and it ruined Jamaica for us. The people are shady, it is dirty, everyone is trying to scam you, and they drive like they are trying to kill people.

I was told that Ocho Rios is better than Montego. Either way, I would stay out of the inner city and just enjoy the coast.

Sounds about like every third world country I've lived in (mostly Africa, 2 year stint in SE Asia as well). Especially the driving! Sheesh, never gripped a steering wheel so hard in my life! In the tourist type locations, inner areas tend to be more local and therefore when you walk in as a foreigner/outsider, boom, they're on you.
