Ok so this is the help me with my Basement thread....

I have finished 2 rooms and have 2 to go...
Room 1 Finished - Ripped 2x4 glued and powder nailed to wall, green DW
This was a pain... I shoulda probably just framed it... or at least not ripped the 2x4s down and put them flat on the wall.
Room 2 Finished - Framed against concrete
Room 3 Bathroom NOT STARTED. - 1 wall against concrete... I bought 1x3 firring strips but may need to go thicker depending on shower distances / clearances... If I do fir this out how should I do it.
Room 4 - LONG concrete wall ... I will need to frame part of it for closet and rest needs a soffit for drain pipe 1.5 foot deep or so... 2-3 feet wide. What to do with this one

Is that drain pipe right up against the wall? Whatever you do, you want to leave access to that cleanout.

Instead of your soffit plan, you could also conceal it behind some built in cupboards, or display shelving for your glassware. There are all kinds of creative things you could do, but you always want to keep in mind that you may need to get to it someday. Hopefully not.

Which drainpipe... the small one in the bath will have the cleanout available... weather it sticks out or not... the big one in the kitchen area will be in a closet.
I thought about the whole cabinet thing but frankly I'm trying to do this as cheap and easy as possible... i am not that good with being exact so adding extra detail especially something that has to look consistant is not a good idea for me...
So far I have spent 2500 or so on the whole project... that includes the 2 completed rooms, the toilet, shower, sink, sink faucet, carpet in the completed room next to the bath, and all the wood and drywall for the bathroom.
I plan on building an 8" platform that the shower will sit on so that I don't have to break concrete.
BTW I HATE FINISHING DRYWALL... I may actually pay to have that done in the bath and "living" areas. I also think I will have a plumber do the supply for the bath. It has been all me so far but I don't know what to do for the rest.
Has anyone used PEX for water supply, is it "novice friendly?" or should I pay some ass crack to do it for me?

So, I've finished basements w/ every one of the ways you discribed. My preference is to just ramset a plate next to the wall and either float the wall on it. (if you need to float it otherwise just frame the wall on the ground and stand it then ramset) Doing it this way you can make sure you have a nice straight wall and you don't have to worry about waves in the concrete wall. Another thing is that trying trying to ramset firing strips just pisses me off to no end. You spend all that time ripping the damb things and when you go to put them on the wall you know that half are just going to split open and then they are worthless.

Milt's right about that clean out though. Even if you have to hang a picture of Rogers ass over the hole in the wall you want to leave a way to get to that sucker later because one day somebody is going to try and get batch worth of whole leaf hop to go down that pipe and they will need some help, ask how I know.

Block all of the floor joist bays on any walls that run parallel w/ the joist.

you're right on w/ the green treat. Anything that touches concrete or dirt should be treated. You don't have to build your whole wall out of it though, just the stick that touches it. BTW they changed the chemical in that stuff a year or two ago and some of it you can only use hot dipped galvinized nails with or it eat through your nails. Just ask the guy at the lumber store. I think the blue treated stuff is fine w/ any nails. Not sure though.

I'm w/ you on the drywall finishing...hate it. The guys that do it for a living are much faster and it tends to look better when they are done...some will charge more if they don't hang the rock themselfs though.

No advice on the plumbing. All I know about that is that shit rolls down hill.
