Brewing up two batches today of "Mystery Hop Challenge" for the Nor Cal Homebrew Festival in Septermber. Each club was given a "mystery" hop with 14.4 % AA and told to brew any kind of beer to showcase the hops. We can use as much hops as we want, but only that hop. So, today it is two pale ales with two different hopping schedules.

I've got an all Calypso hopped pale ale planned for about an hour from now. Smells great, super fruity hop, but huge Cohumulone: 40-42%. Supposedly a Dual-purpose hop though. Not sure what to expect with that, but we'll see.

Kegged my 2nd Double IPA of the summer yesterday with over 20 oz of hops. 10 oz for dry hopping alone! Finally got pretty damn close to my 5 gallon mark in the keg with a post boil of 7 gallons.

Just about to sparge my witbier. The last brew of the summer before I go back to teach. What a great summer it has been!

Made a really simple APA tonight.
OG: 1054 IBU 35
92% 2-row
8% English Crystal 55L - 70L
Cascade and Centennial throughout.
Mash 156
Yeast: WLP 001

It was time to get back to basics. I love the beer that this recipe makes and figured I would make it again. Also figured out that I was using WAY too much geletin and my hoppy beers were coming out really bland and boring. Looking forward to just crashing this one and drinking a nice hazy beer that tastes great. Burning my vacation days this weekend too! Today was a APA, tomorrow is Jamil's robust porter (which if you haven't tried its fucking awesome.) and Saturday is my first attempt at Janet's Brown Ale. I am down to less than half a keg of homebrew after this years blueberry harvest. When you can't brew for over a month, it can catch up to you. I should be all smiles and hangovers in a month! :jnj

Just brewed first of my Hop Hazard recipe: Columbus, Centennial, homegrown Cascade, Warrior and Amarillo, with 5oz wet HG Cascade at 2min. Bubbling away now. Will be dry hopping too. :jnj
