turns out the home owners association has a small problem with firing line actions for the auto-siphon

maybe I will give it cement shoes and drown it in PBW for several days

PBW and Star San are a great one-two punch.
Maybe you could check for wild yeast in the air. Do you brew out doors or have an air vent in doors that might be blowing some bugs about?
Just another variable to make use more paranoid, but at least another thing you can check off the list.

I generally brew outdoors, but the last batch I made I brewed inside.

I really need to find this bug and figure out how to get rid of it!
