tried to make some tap handles (check'em out)

Tue Jan 25, 2011 7:40 pm

I was inspired by Ken's (of MLAP see famehttp://www.brews-bros.com/index.php/topic/451-memory-lapse-pale-ale/) tap handles and tried to make some handles.

The handles are:
  • Tap handle ferrules
  • Pre-made table legs from Lowes
  • a square head
  • T-nuts (to screw the square head onto the bolts that are already on the legs)
  • and $4 Krylon chalkboard spray-paint

I am guessing that each handle was less than $8 for the materials.

The trickiest part was drilling the 1/2" hole to accommodate the ferrule that screws onto the tap. Screwing the ferrules into the 1/2 hole is also difficult. I ended up clamping it down and using a paddle/spade bit on my drill. The chalkboard spray paint takes 24 hours to dry.

I think the premade furniture legs are made of pine (at least that is what the receipt reads). The square blocks are pre-cut and have routed (rounded over) edges that I picked up from the same aisle where Lowes stocks crown molding.
