I don't think it will be for us entirely but I doubt they will just advertise for Dogfish head the entire time and if they do, oh well. I have never in my life had so many people tell me about this show before it was on. Everyone that knows that I like craft beer was telling me about the show and they were excited that they may provide me with beer information I didn't know about. That is great.

As for BMC advertising during it, shut the fuck up, I think I have heard Justin on many occasions say he would take money from Auggie if he threw it him. It wasn't like the show was pandering to BMC, they dogged them several times during the show. Granted, people don't realize that Blue Moon is made by Coors nor do they care, but it is a gateway beer, like it or not. The Sony connection is a little bit of a sellout but again, any Craft brewer would jump at the opportunity to expand their audience. This bashing of a guy because he gets successful in all forms of life just pissess me off.

I watched Food, Inc the other day, a must watch, and the organic guys get crap for selling their products at Wal-Mart and one of the Organic producers retaliates with the fact that Wal-Mart buying organic means that that much less fertilizer and other harmful things are taken out of the food supply. Same goes here, for every Dogfish Head that gets bigger, that is one more 12 pack of BMC not sold, I don't care how it happens.

I am not a Sam guy, I think he is personal-able a good image and I think his beers are Ok, but he is the right guy to get on TV first with a show and make it successful for a general audience.

+100

I am a bit of a Sam fan (not a fanboy)... because he isn't afraid to make a spit-corn beer and then show people on TV that he's doing it. He's trying something new/really old. The guys worked to get where he is. I think the shows pretty good - not great - but it's at least interesting to see. Sure, he seems to think pretty highly of himself, but I'm sure you would too if you started where he did and ended up with your own TV show about craft beer. Kudos to him.

As for BMC commercials... that's what a DVR is for. Skip 'em and take the money to get the show on the air.

Cheers!

The 2nd show was better in that there was less preening and name-dropping. I liked seeing some of the DFH employees and the regular folk trying chica, not the "beer experts" from Savour. However, I do want to see him go to other breweries so that it's not a DFH infomercial.

Frankly, the Discovery Channel has taken the decision on whether or not to watch out of my hands. Third move in four weeks? Can't watch on Mondays, Thursdays are iffy at bests. You don't have to post a synopsis and review of each episode for me. There are three forums and a website doing it already.

I don't think it's all that bad of a show over all. As far as Sam Calgione goes, he can be a bit annoying at times, but shit, so can Anthony Bourdain and I've been watching his shows for as long as he's been on.
It's interesting to see some of the creative and production process involved with the development and production of the beer.
Last weeks episode where they gave away all that Punkin Ale to the employees because it was in twist off bottles seemed like bullshit. The wife and I looked at each other and both said at the same time "Why wouldn't they just sell it at the brew pub instead of taking a loss?" They tested it for proper carbonation (which in itself was interesting) and found it to be just fine. That whole part seemed manufactured just to make Sam look benevolent.
But, it's a show about making beer, so I'll probably watch it until something better comes along.
And I'm with those other guys, I DVR and zip through commercials, so I couldn't give two shits about who sponsors the show.

Besides, I already struggle with the eternal battle between Ace of Cakes and World's Dumbest. Throw a third show into the mix, and, well, I might as well give up Internet radio. . .
