Around here we say "New OR-lens", and some people further south say "New Orle-On", but according to the natives it's "Naw-lens".

It was a boring Monday, I was looking for a recipe to brew this coming Sunday, and I was enjoying my Pliny clone (apparently!). The "Ama-REE-oh" dufus got the best of me.

I should learn not to post when I drink IPA.

Correct you are sir.

It's Nawlens. The only time it is appropriate to say New-or-Leens is when you are singing a song and you need a rhyme like "Do you know what it means to miss New-or-LEEns."

Other that that, you will probably get your ass kicked for saying New-or-LEEns, especially if I'm around.

Ohh, I dont give a fat baby's ass how people pronounce Amarillo.

What can I say....
I always pronounced it "Ama rill o" before I moved to San Diego.

I move here, found out I had been pronouncing it all wrong, like a "Yankee", and I was 'corrected" several times. Everyone, including all the local brewers, call it "ama ree oh". Must be the proximity to the border.

Can't win on this one....

Cheers,
Mitch

Geeezz... Whan are you F'tarts going learn that spoken language is a fluent plastic thing you can't make retarded static pronounciation rules about?! "When in Rome.." and all that jazz... And I dont really care where that Rome is, just speak as you are brought up to speak and use that dialect. That's what gives the spoken language spice and flavour.

And if someone is going kick my ass for pronouncing "Amarillo" with an "a" sound like in Arse or "New ORlince" I will equally kick their ass for not being able to pronounce "Aalborg" or "København" correct for that matter.

Luv you all and especially JP :nutters: and :unicornrainbow: from me to you.

I will also have to agree with you, though. Amarillo hops are from the PNW, and last I checked, it ain't Mexico (yet).

Give me a quesa-dilla as well. Or Polo-asada?

Mitch Steele is using the Spanish pronunciation (curious if he is consistant with how he pronounces San Diego, Los Angeles, etc.) while the rest of us use the Cascadian dialect.

I still have not figured out why our southern neighbors and their decendants that no longer live there prefer to be known as "Latinos". Not many of them speak Latin or Italian. Except for the Brazilians, I would think "Espaniolos" or something like that would be more accurate as most of the native peoples that their ancestors conquered have died off or have been assimilated.

Well I'm from Ohio and we have a town called Rio Grande that they pronounce "RYE-OH GRAND" Does that make it right?

Anyway if anyone REALLY wants to find out how to pronounce it, and I would really like to see somebody do this but I am too lazy myself, call this number and ask. (509) 865-6422. That's the number to Virgil Gamache farms in Washington where the hop was cultivated.
