fermentation fridge

Wed May 19, 2010 2:52 pm

Does anybody know how to or has added a heating element to a fridge for temp control? I have a couple fridges now and I would like to add a heating element to one to keep my temps more constant....(the 65 to 72 range depending on stage of ferment) I know I can pick up a fermewrap. I just thought it would be nice to convert a fridge for the added space where I could ferment several batches at once.

You actually need a heating pad in Arizona? We're supposed to get some more fricken snow in the next few days here! IF it ever warms up, I can use the fridge to keep the temps down, but damn, almost June and still not warming up yet!! Eventually I hope to get a conical, which is why I was looking to add a heating element to the fridge. :aaron

Ranco with small space heater under a shelf. Works great.
Shut up, Mr. Burton! You are not brought upon this world to get it!

I am using a brew belt to maintain fermentation temps on my B3 conical in a freezer. The ferm wrap is probably better (more surface area) but this works. Dual stage would be nice to keep temps down at the start of fermentation and then maintain the temps for the duration. I have to play with my Johnson  temp controller to change from cooling to heating or vice versa.
Cheers!

I use this with this. The fermwraps at Morebeer are great unless you're fermenting more than one carboy in your fridge/freezer. The space heater hits all carboys with one product.
