Good idea (I teach BJCP classes too), but really? 500 or 600 of them? I couldn't take that many, and there aren't enough classes in our area that could make use of that many.

You're right, 600 is quite a few but 15 class members times 2 beers a week times 10 weeks is pretty good size number. And I could make the case they need to judge even more beers, meads, and ciders than that. I guess most study groups practice on commercial beers and skip meads and ciders.
