Beer for my Dad - recomendations please

G'day All,

I'm looking to do a batch for my Dad, he likes drinking largers like carlton draught and VB (bit like Miller and Bud for those in the US) and I want to brew some beer for him. He dosent mind US pale ale, and after trying my Saison (a not to funky one) asked for something with less flavour.

I'm not excited by the idea but would like to brew some beer for my old man. So hit me with your recomendations for thoise who dont really want flavour in their beer

an American wheat beer with a little crystal 20 and willamette hops is a good start. Use a kolsch yeast and ferment low temps 65-68. My wifey's favorite summer beer.

Cream Ale!

Cream ale, kolsch, or a wheat beer should do the trick. Try something like Wyeast 1007 on a wheat beer to give a nice clean crisp taste.

Also, there's a recipe in the CYBI section for cloning Dad's Little Helper. If it turns out anything like the Rouge version that is an awesome brew that imo average beer drinkers could enjoy.

Sounds like he will enjoy a nice clean crisp Lager. Crown? Lawnmower beer?

I'd go with the Cream Ale, and hop it to 35 IBUs like Deschutes' Twilight using a citrusy hop that you can get:

Something like:

(assuming 70% eff)

4 kg Pale 2 Row
.5 kg Flaked Maize
.5 kg Crystal 10L

Hop it using about 25 g flavor hops at 20, 15, 10 5, and flame out with something citrusy that you can get (Maybe Nelson Sauvin?) then calculate whatever amount it would take to bring the bitterness up to 35 IBUs as a 60 minute bittering addition. Feel free to dry hop it, too.

US-05/Wyeast 1056/WLP001 yeast

Thanks all,

Wont be going for a larger as I dont have temp control to keep it low enough. I am thinking about making myself a Witt but before adding the spices and orange peel running off some of the wort and fermenting it with a Cal Ale.

Chould give a mild kind of wheat beer.

Will also probably have a crack at cream ale too, any tips on how long after fermenting till these peak?
