So I'm gonna need some pointers on getting to Linden Street safely. We're taking the BART from downtown.... But it has been brought to my attention that the lady and I walking between the BART to Linden Street may not be the safest thing ever.

Any suggestions? What's everyone else doing?

May I Suggest Bullet Proof Vests.

Oakland is always in the top 10 most dangerous cities in America.
Hey, how about next time we have the festival in Afghanistan?

The bset thing to do is travel in groups. It looks like a lot of people will be barting in so maybe we could coordinate a meeting time at the Oakland station and walk together.

Yeah, I had thought of that too... But chances are I'll be arriving an hour or so after everyone else. My plane lands at noon, and we have to head up to our hotel, drop off our shit, and haul ass over to Oakland. So my guess is we won't be arriving til closer to 2 :-\

I walked from BART to the BNA4 event. there's nothing in that area that was scary. it's all industrial like a train yard and warehouses. you can see the route that you would take via the street view on maps.google.com if you want to pre-walk it. of course I did this during the day. two things to note about this. first is that there wasn't traffic driving by like there would be in other parts of Oakland. it's really out of the way to the point that the only traffic going by will be a car going to the festival or a truck leaving. second is that with a tiny bit of coordination you could do a meet up at the station between 12:30-1 then walk there as a group.

the part of Oakland that scares me more is leaving the Trappist and going back to BART. downtown has lots of places to hide and run away to.
