Yeast Blending

Fri Jan 15, 2010 8:41 pm

I always make my house American IPA using WLP001. OG is always between 1.060-1.065, and I make a 1.22 L. starter with two vials. I'm brewing tomorrow, and this morning I made a starter using one vial of WLP001 and one vial of WLP051 (California V). Has anyone ever tried this combination before? Basically, it's a pretty good drive over to my LHBS, and I didn't want to go out. Any feedback is always appreciated! :bnarmy:

never used that combo, but I love blending strains. I like to build them up separately and blend at pitching.

I blended two wine strains to make a cherry wine. I split the batch and fermented separately then blended in the secondary.

I have never blended those two strains but love brewing up 100% brett beers with 2-3 different strains of brett in the primary. very interesting flavors/aromas as long as one is very patient (typcially takes 8-10 wks to finish primary).
