How much PBW would it take in my beer to make it undrinkable

Wed Dec 16, 2009 9:35 am

Dumb mistake. Cooled the beer down to ferment temp, then put on blow off tube from my corny into maybe 600mL excess PBW (I usually use StarSan but didn't have any made up). The next day I see all the PBW sucked into the corny. Grrrrrrr. The PBW was mixed to 12Tbs/5 Gal strength. I drank a little of the post-ferment beer--the FG is the same as the other half of it in the fermenter and it tastes mostly the same (though I was experimenting with all Nottingham in one and a mix of yeast in the other) I've only drunk the contents of the hydrometer tube. It could be my imagination, but 10 minutes after drinking my mouth feels a little drier than usual. But that could be my imagination. Advice?

Well it probably won't hurt you, but I would toss it...unless it tastes really good, then drink it! Can this really be the worse you've put in your body?

Oh, and sorry that's probably no help.

PBW CAN BE HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED! See page 2 of the safety sheet.

Toss it.

Star San foam is OK, diluted PBW is not.

why did you make it so strong? 12 tablespoons per 5 gallons is a lot!
