Every used any vanilla extract of vanilla bean?

I tried titrating using an eyedropper and a 6oz sample of the beer, and the more I added, the better it tasted. So I just dumped the whole thing in, spices and all.

Never done it with vanilla bean, but I'm not against trying it in the future.

That sounds good.....the Capt. Morgan (or something similar) will provide another layer of flavors....I think i'm going to add some quality vanilla extract instead of a bean so I can control that flavor a little better. Can't wait for this to get carbonated.

Do you think it is necessary to soak the spices for two weeks? - i'm thinking 2 days as my beer has been sitting in the keg (not carbonating) for two weeks already.

I don't know if it's necessary, but it's how I did it :jnj Bugeater also does the same thing with his famous oatmeal cookie beer.

Did you brew up the recipe I posted, or your own?

I brewed up my own recipe, pulled from the deep recesses of my brain. It turned out good I think, though i haven't really tasted it yet since it is still at room temp with no carb - it has potential to be good though - i'll post the recipe if it turns out like I hope. I used a lot of Special B. Has a great red color. :aaron
