Community Brew 4... 5... 6...

Wed Nov 04, 2009 7:11 pm

Alright brothas. The software seems stable, so far. Community Brew #3 is underway and will soon be judged.

But that shouldn't have any effect on any future ones - AND - it's my favorite season - brewing season! We need some new recipes/styles to brew. Don't get much feedback on your beers? Made some friends in the BN chat and want to swap some brews? Remember, the BN is a virtual homebrew club. There are only a few events, like GABF, NHC, or the BNA parties when a lot of us get together and share our beer. This is a good way to get some anonymous feedback, peel the covers back on some of the judging mystery, and swap some beers with your BN brothas and sistas around the country - and it's all free.

If you have any styles and/or recipies that you are dying to make, and you want to know how yours stacks up - then go over to asshatbrewingsoftware.com, register for an account, and submit a recipe or idea for a style on the forum.

Once we get some interest in a particular style, I'll commit it to a comp. Right now they have sequential numbers, but that doesn't mean they will be done in that order. Why not go and suggest some styles that are on deck for you.

PROST!

II think we should try and do something small and sessionable. Staying away from extremes could really help a lot of brewers get a lot of feedback on their process. (8c)ESB, any of the brown ale categories, (6b) blonde, or even a (6a) cream ale.

That is a great idea. I happen to know somebody with a great cream ale recipe <cough>with rye</cough>.

I think the session beer is a fantastic idea.

Just sent out my combrew3 bottles and am ready to brew for combrew4. I'll be the first naysayer regarding many "session beers" in general ... there's nothing I'd want to brew less than a 60 shilling, red, or mild, and I don't really see how brewing a session beer will necessarily help anyone refine their process more than anything else. A dry stout, though, might be a fun brew that I'd like to work on... That said, I'll brew whatever is decided so that I can be in on the community brew, now that Mylo has put so much time into it.

PS, I'd love to get a chance to try everyone else's Pilseners... I know it's a style that demands temp control equipment... but those of us who have it might as well use it, and those of us who don't might be inspired to come up with some solutions....
