bizarre yeast "geysers"

Sun Oct 18, 2009 10:43 pm

Can anyone explain what I saw happening in my fermenter? After the yeast had started to floc and settle out, I noticed these "geysers" shooting off the yeast cake on the bottom of the fermenter. Very cool and mysterious. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luKHiFfUoew

That is just CO2 evolving from the yeast cake, and it pulls up some of the yeast as it rises to the surface. Depending on the flocculation/sedimentation properties of different yeasts, you will/will not see this sometimes.

It is cool lookin'. :bnarmy:
