My Beer froze in the Primary

Tue Oct 20, 2009 9:45 am

I brewed a Irish red, had it in the primary for 14 days then I crash chilled it. That may be an understatement. HAHA I put it in the fridge after fermentation was complete, turned down the temp- never checked it. Four days went bye wanted to rack into keg last night and its FROZEN!!!!!! A funny thing was that my airlock did not freeze. I don't know.......could of been moving?

I am laughing..... not too worried just thought I would tell a little story and see if anyone has any comments on what freezing could've done to my beer.

If you are bottle conditioning you will need to add fresh yeast.

did it freeze all the way through or what? If it partially froze and you racked off the remaining beer from the ice slush, you may very well end up with the first Irish Eisred! You must have a good fridge!
